United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has prioritized youth engagement, recognizing that young people bring fresh perspectives essential for creating the breakthroughs our world needs.

In this spirit, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), with support from the Government of Germany, invites young people to apply for the 2nd edition of the United Nations Youth Champions for Disarmament Training Programme. This fully funded program offers an innovative learning experience in New York, USA, empowering youth to promote disarmament within their communities.

Eligibility Criteria for the UN Youth Champion for Disarmament Training Programme

To qualify, applicants should:

  • Be between 18 and 24 years old by the application deadline.
  • Have a strong interest in peace advocacy, disarmament, non-proliferation, and arms control within their communities.
  • Be open to participating in both a regional workshop and a visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The program will select 15 young people, adding a regional focus to this edition. Participants will come from various regions, including Africa, Europe, Asia and the Pacific, the Americas, and the Caribbean, bringing diverse perspectives to the global disarmament discussion.

Highlights of the Program

The training will focus on core disarmament principles, non-proliferation, arms control, and their connections to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Selected participants will begin with introductory courses, followed by regular dialogues with experts from think tanks, civil society, and the diplomatic sector. They will then participate in regional workshops and youth forums. At the program’s conclusion, each Youth Champion will present their insights at an event held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

UNODA will also open three regional job opportunities for young professionals to support the program’s implementation.
