GTI Microfinance Bank Past Questions – Answers/Explanations
1. Solution: Let the no of students present currently = x
Sum of Age of all the students currently = Average Age × No. of Students = 40x
New Students = 120
Average Age of new Students only = 32
Sum of Age of all the new Students = 32 × 120 = 3840
Now Total No. of Students = x + 120
New Average = 40 – 4 = 36
Sum of Age of Total Students = 40x + 3840
Average = Sum of Age of all the students / Total no. of students
⇒ 36 = (40x + 3840)/ (x + 120)
⇒ 36 × (x + 120) = (40x + 3840)
⇒ 36x + 4320 = 40x + 3840
⇒ 4x = 480
⇒ x = 120
Total No. of students after joining of new students = x + 120 = 120 + 120 = 240
2. Solution: Weight required by the canteen per week or for 7 days = 112 Kgs
∴ Weight required by the canteen for 1 day = (112 / 7) = 16 Kgs
∴ Weight required by the canteen for 69 days = 16 × 69 = 1104 Kgs
3. Solution: Say X is the speed limit of the road.
Given, B exceeded the limit by 2 times the amount by which A exceeded the limit. Also given, A exceeded the limit by 10 km/hr
⇒ B exceeded the limit by 2 × 10 = 20 km/hr
∴ Speed of B = X + 20 and it is given to be 35 km/hr
∴ X + 20 = 35
⇒ X = 35 – 20 = 15 km/hr
∴ Speed limit of the road = 15 km/hr
4. Solution: Say (2x+1) and (2x+3) are the two consecutive odd integers for some positive integer x.
⇒ (2x+1) + (2x+3) = n
⇒ 4x + 4 = n
Given n < 100
⇒ 4x+ 4 < 100
⇒ 4x < 96
⇒ x < 24
Since x is an integer and maximum possible value of x = 23.
For x = 23, maximum possible value of n = 4 × 23 + 4 = 96
5. Solution: Say Age of father is A years and age of my age is B years and my son’s age is C years.
Given, sum of my and my father’s age is 100
⇒ A + B = 100 …… (Eq.1)
Also given when my I’m as old as my father is now (A – B years later), my age is 5 times my son’s present age
⇒ A = 5 × C ……. (Eq.2)
Also after (A – B) years, my son is 8 years older than my present age
⇒ C + A – B = B + 8
⇒ A – 2B + C = 8 ……. (Eq.3)
From Eq.1 we know A = 100 – B
Substituting in Eq.3
⇒ 100 – B – 2B + C =8
⇒ 3B – C = 92 ……… (Eq.4)
Substituting Eq.2 in Eq.3
⇒ 6C – 2B = 8
⇒ 3C – B = 4 …….. (Eq.5)
Eq.4 + 3 × Eq.5
⇒ 8C = 92+12 = 104
⇒ C = 104/8 = 13 years is the present age of Son.
6. Solution: By simple observation we can tell that this question refers to a calendar.
In a calendar, number of months with 28 days = 1 (February)
Number of months with 30 days = 4 (April, June, September, November)
Number of months with 31 days = 7 (January, March, May, July, August, October and December)
28 × 1 + 30 × 4 + 31 × 7 = 365
⇒ a = 1, b = 4, c = 7
⇒ a + b + c = 12
7. Solution: We have weight of first package = 500kg.
Weight of third package = 500 + 45% of 500 kg
= 500 + 45/100 × 500
= 500 + 225
= 725
Weight of second package = 725kg + 50% of 725
= 725 + 725 × 50/100
= 725 + 362.5
= 1087.5
Weight of fourth package = 360kg
We are given that weight of fourth package =40%of weight of 5 th package
Hence 360 = 40/100 × weight of fifth package
Weight of fifth package = 360 × 100/40
= 900 ks
Total weight of all packages = 500 + 725 + 1087.5 + 360 + 900
= 3572.5
Average weight = 3572.5/5
= 714.5 kgs
