x – 14 = 13

2. I think of a number. I multiply it by 7. I add 12. The result is 40. What is the number I am thinking of?

7y + 12 = 40

3. The perimeter of a rectangle is 30 cm and its length is x cm. Find its area in terms of x.

C. (15×2 – x) cm2

The area of a rectangle = length × breadth, where the length = x and the breadth = 15 – x
